Peace still a far cry : 1 shot dead in continuing violence

Bpr, May 24 : In continuing violence, since the evening of May 3,well armed suspected Kuki militants opened fire killing one and injuring another today.
The incident happened at around 7.30 am in an area between Thamnapokpi, Bishnupur and Kangathei village in Churachandpur.
The two persons were among a large crowd of people who went to protect and save Hill Valley Goodwill Mission School, belonging to Meitei, being burnt by armed suspected Kuki militants.
When the large crowd rushed in to save the school from fire, the suspected Kuki militants opened fire at them. Few among the crowds also retaliated by firing several rounds of bullets using double barrel guns.
Later, when Bishnupur commandos and army stationed at Ngangkhalawai reached the spot, suspected Kuki militants fired several rounds of bullets using sophisticated weapons from the hills. In the firing, Toijam Chandramani and L Manosh alias Abunao (25) were injured seriously.
Toijam Chandramani was hurt in his stomach and he was first rushed to Bishnupur Hospital before being referred to Asian Hospital, where he succumbed to his injury.
Toijam Chandramani was son of T Ingochou and T (O) Thabalei of Churachandpur Thengra Leirak. He was staying at the relief camp opened at Moirang College.
His body has been deposited at RIMS for postmortem.
On the other hand, L Manosh was rushed to CHC Moirang and further referred to a hospital in Imphal.
L Manosh is son of L Gambha.
Meanwhile, in another incident, five houses belonging to Meitei were looted and burnt at Phougakchao Awang Maning Leikai yesterday night.
Several houses were also burnt by suspected Kuki militants at Tronglaobi area at around 1 am. VDF personnel, commandos and CRPF personnel exchanged fire with the suspected militants for hours.
Following the incident, locals have condemned the Central security forces deployed in the area asserting that they are unable to control and contain the armed Kuki militants who are constantly attacking Meitei villages.
