IMPHAL, May 25 : Categorically stating that the Assam Rifles which has been here in Manipur since many decades back in the name of maintaining law and order and fighting insurgency has been either abetting or watching silently when Kuki militants indulge in all kinds of violent and unlawful activities, the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has sought withdrawal of all AR troops from Manipur.
As the MLAs of the State have failed to convene an emergency meeting of the State Assembly in the face of the ethnic crisis besieging the State, it is time for the people to elicit concrete positions of all the MLAs regarding the issue, said a press release issued by the media coordinator of COCOMI.
The current crisis has testified that the Government of India never sees the people of Manipur as citizens of India.
Even though Kuki militants have been blatantly violating SoO ground rules by killing unarmed civilians and burning villages, the Central forces have not been doing anything to contain them rather there are signs of Central forces abetting the Kuki militants, it said.
Both the Government of India and the Government of Manipur should immediately abrogate the SoO signed with Kuki militants and no separate administrative unit should be created in Manipur on ethnic lines, the COCOMI asserted.
It further demanded updation and implementation of NRC in the State at the earliest so as to protect the indigenous people.
The COCOMI also called upon all the people to take out rallies at 1 pm of May 29 in their respective localities and submit a memorandum to the nearest SDC/SDO/DC.
