IMPHAL, May 25: The ban imposed on publication of press releases issued by security forces has been removed following a joint meeting held between media organisations and representatives of the Assam Rifles and Jat Regiment today.
Representatives of media organisations including the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) and Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MJHU) met with officials of the security forces at Manipur Press Club today.
It may be noted that the ban on publication of press releases of the security forces was imposed condemning an assault on the three journalists by the personnel of the Jat Regiment at New Lambulane on May 22.
The decision to remove the ban was taken after Assam Rifles officials representing the office of the PRO (Public Relations Officer) assured that such incident will not be repeated in the future and that a media liaison office is being opened at M Sector, Kanglapat road where media persons can directly contact in case of such confrontation, said media bodies.
The Jat Regiment officer also interacted with the scribes who were assaulted in the May 22 New Lambulane incident. He regretted the incident and said actions have been taken against the Jawans involved in the incident. In light of the following development, it was decided to roll back the ban, added the media bodies.
