MP’s house targeted

IMPHAL, May 25: After Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam’s house was vandalised at Ningthoukhong yesterday, thousands of people tried to storm the house of MP and Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal East this evening.
Even as people marching from different directions tried to converge at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai and storm the MP’s residence, security forces somehow foiled the attempt.
Notably, the MP’s residence is guarded by Central paramilitary forces. As the mob tried to push their way through, a tense situation ensued.
Later police commandos arrived at the scene and pushed back the mob by firing several rounds of tear gas shells and rubber bullets.
