Kom Union, Manipur clarifies

IMPHAL, May 25: As a rejoinder to a news story published by this paper today, Kom Union, Manipur has clarified that the villagers of Kangathei were not forcibly driven out by armed Kuki militants but "requested" to leave the village by "some unknown armed volunteers for their own safety".
Kom Union, Manipur, in a statement released to the media today, said "Kangathei Kom villagers were requested by some unknown arm[ed] volunteers to leave the village for sometime for their own safety since the village is in a vulnerable location..."
It issued apology to all concerned and strongly appealed to all to bring a peaceful solution to the conflict at the earliest.
