THOUBAL, May 25: Local clubs of Wangkhem Assembly Constituency submitted a memorandum to Wangkhem AC MLA Keisham Meghachandra listing four demands based on the concepts of peace, relief and integrity.
The memorandum was handed over to the MLA at his residence at Yairipok Bishnunaha by representatives of local clubs.
In the memorandum, the locals demanded the MLA to lay down his stance on the current situation as one of the leaders of Opposition; support the local clubs who have been involved in the efforts to restore peace, relief efforts and protect the integrity of Manipur morally, physically and financially; appoint a representative to facilitate better communication during times of emergency and address these demands at the earliest.
Assuring to fulfill the demands raised by the people, MLA Meghachandra maintained that the clashes could have been contained on the same day violence erupted.
The State forces which number around 35,000 to 40,000 could have been deployed to suppress the violence instead of relying on Central paramilitary forces. However, Congress MLAs will try all possible avenues to resolve the conflict, MLA Meghachandra said.
Sharing that Congress MLAs will be leaving for Delhi tomorrow as they have secured an appointment with President Murmu, he further assured that the Congress will cooperate with all efforts undertaken by the State to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
