THOUBAL, May 25: Under the banner of "One Manipur, One Administration", a sit-in protest was staged at Yairipok Kekru today.
The protest was jointly organised by Kekru Yairi Club Yairipok (KYCY), Kekru Development Youth Club, a student organisation and meira paibi associations from Kekru Mathak Leikai and Makha Leikai.
The protesting crowd called for abrogation of SoO pact, setting up of a Population Commission, enforcement of NRC in Manipur at the earliest while expressing stern opposition to the demand for a separate administration in Manipur by the ten Chin-Kuki MLAs.
During the protest, Longjam Sangeeta, a meira paibi representative, said that despite claims by authority regarding deployment of numerous security forces and significant decrease in incidence of violence, unabated attacks by Kuki militants on Meiteis leading to deaths and injury continues unabated. As women and mothers, we can no longer remain as mute spectators in the face of such atrocities, she added.
The dire situation has led us to the point of wanting to take up arms to protect our motherland, she said.
Further, she expressed discontent with the silence of the fifty MLAs while the ten Chin-Kuki MLAs have united to demand a separate administration.
The protestors raised many slogans of dissent and held placards with messages of "Down with narco-terrorism", "Withdraw SoO pact with Kuki militants" and "protect the integrity of Manipur" among others.
