Kamjong DC launches 'Integrated Tribal Development Project'

Ukhrul, May 2: Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong District, Rangnamei Rang Peter launched the "Integrated Tribal Development Project" of Mapithel area villages under Phungyar block, Kamjong at Lungpha village community hall today.
The project is implemented by Ardent Foundation (DSIR-SIRO) under the sponsorship of National Bank of Agricultural & Research Development (NABARD).
The DC planted Avocado sapling to mark the launching of the project.
Speaking at the occasion, the DC said that Kamjong district is one of the biggest districts of Manipur and has a vast land for growing horticultural crops.
'Mapithel range villages have to adopt a sustainable horti model area by introducing new exotic fruit varieties having high market values to elevate our economy', he said.
Plantation of fruit bearing trees will not only generate income but the soil and water will also be conserved, he added.
He also expressed gratitude to NABARD for selecting Mapithel range villages for implementation of "Integrated Tribal development Project".
The project will cover nine villages.
Meanwhile DDM NABARD Premjoy Singh elaborated on the details of the project.
He informed that the project cost is Rs 1.70 crore, NABARD will fund Rs 1.43 crore while the remaining fund is convergence.
He also urged the farmers to set up a corpus fund for their benefit in case of any emergency.
It may be noted that 200 beneficiaries farmers have been selected for plantation of avocado and lemon in 200 acres of land in Mapithel hill ranges under the project.
General Manager RO NABARD N Guite, former candidate Hopingson A' Shimray, SDO Phungyar, Headmen, Village co-ordinators, farmers, women and youth of the Mapithel range villages also attended today's launching programme.
