Four hurt in clash with cops

IMPHAL, Jun 16: At least four persons were hurt in security forces' action to disperse a mob who set on fire a building located near Advance Hospital at Harikhagok Makhong Thangapat Mapal, Imphal East today afternoon.
A large crowd had gathered at Harikhagok Makhong Thangapat Mapal, under Porompat PS when Imphal East police rushed to the area to prevent unwanted incidents. A heated argument broke out between the police and crowd, after which police pushed back the crowd from the area towards Thangapat Mapal area.
After some time, the crowd again gathered in the nearby area and set ablaze one house which was earlier burnt during the first week of May.
Police reinforcements then came to the spot and fired several rounds of bullets to disperse the mob.
Soon, a team of Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel arrived on the spot and they also fired several rounds of tear gas shells and mock bombs to disperse the mob.
The mob then resorted to pelting stones and using slingshots toward the security personnel.
Later, the mob were pushed back toward Thumbuthong Bridge and Wangkhei Thangapat side by the security personnel. During the scuffle, 4 persons got injured.
