IMPHAL, Jun 1 : Expressing deep concern over the loss of lives and properties and displacement of thousands of people due to the clash between two sections of people in Manipur, the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), an apex Christian body of Manipur, has appealed to one and all for an immediate ceasefire and to end the barbarism in all corners of the State.
AMCO held an emergency meeting at its secretariat office at Langol pertaining to the crisis in Manipur today and shared its solidarity and sympathy to all the innocent victims of the conflict.
In a statement issued jointly by its president Rev L Simon Raomai and vice president Rev Luke Rajkumar, AMCO further appealed to all sections of people to contribute their best irrespective of tribe, religion or creed to make Manipur a violence free and harmonious State .
The 'political' unrest has turned out to be the darkest hour in the history of Manipur, AMCO said.
Appreciating Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his effort to resolve the conflict 'even though it is considered   a late initiative from the Government of India, AMCO said that the assurance given by the Central leader to restore the bond of hill and valley people is highly anticipated.
AMCO will also make every effort and pray for early reconciliation between the communities in conflict, it said and prayed for peace and forgiveness to prevail  in the spirit of humanity.
Since its inception, AMCO has been praying and striving for justice, love, equality and holistic development of people through the cultural, spiritual and emotional integrity of the aged old bonding amongst the  hill and valley people, it continued.
Saying that AMCO will continue to extend cooperation to the initiative of the Government, CSOs and NGOs for restoration of peace and harmony in the land, the Christian body appealed to both the Central and State Government to take up necessary 'result oriented steps' to bring a long term solution.
