IMPHAL, Jun 1
The demand for immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militant groups is ever growing with more and more people coming out in support of the demand.
Residents of Uripok Sorbon Thingel and Gopalji Leirak today staged a sit-in protest at Uripok demanding withdrawal of the SoO pact and protection of State's integrity.
Denouncing the killing of innocent civilians by armed Kuki militants, the protesters shared that they do not want war and called for restoration of peace in the State.
They appealed to the Central & State Governments to control the Kuki militants coming from Myanmar and protect the lives and properties of the public. They also urged the Central & State Governments to implement NRC in Manipur to protect the indigenous people from external aggressors.
Meanwhile, Oinam Meira Paibi Lup has questioned the failure of the Central & State Government to cancel the SoO pact with Kuki militant groups who have committed numerous atrocities upon innocent civilians belonging to the Meitei community.
Demanding an inquiry by a high level Constitutional Body to find the true reason for the conflict, Oinam Meira Paibi Lup alleged that the prevailing situation in the State is caused by a pre-planned attack carried out by Kuki militants under SoO and refugees coming from Myanmar & Bangladesh.
The Lup also raised questions over the motive behind the Kuki's opposition to implement the National Register of Citizenship (NRC) in Manipur.
Seeking attention of the Union Home Minister, the Lup urged the Central Government to solve the border fencing issue and monitor the porous international border with Myanmar to prevent unchecked influx of illegal immigrants.
Oinam Meira Paibi Lup also raised other demands such as- Union Government should review the report of Indian Military Agencies operating in Manipur, review the activities of Assam Rifles in Manipur including media reports, no more deployment of Assam Rifles in Manipur, Indian Military Agencies should present a complete statement about the ongoing crisis to the public, etc.
Oinam Meira Paibi Lup further appealed to the Government and all stakeholders to make a concerted effort to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
