Interaction programme on NEP 2020 conducted

IMPHAL, Jul 26: A 'One-day interaction programme on NEP 2020: Progress on implementation & education strategies' was held today at the Court Hall of Manipur University to mark the third anniversary since the implementation of NEP 2020 in MU.
The programme was organised by the Manipuri Department, MU and witnessed the attendance of Prof Naorem Lokendra, Vice Chancellor, MU; Prof Nahakpam Aruna, Dean, School of Humanities and Prof Toijam Tampha, Head of Manipuri Department as the  chief guest, guest of honour and functional president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Naorem Lokendra shared that alongwith NEP 2020, MU now offers a five-year integrated course on Korean language, vocational education, dance, music and physical education. Previously, what was separately categorized under BA and MA will now be available for study under this single integrated course, he said.  
During the last four/five decades, the curriculums were mostly theory based but with NEP 2020, this has been shifted to a more practical based syllabus.
Stating that there are 71 courses on offer under value education and 12 under skill development, he added that applicability of students' areas of study have also expanded.
As mentioned in NEP 2020, the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) has been opened at MU. Sharing that all students of the University must register in ABC's portal, he conveyed that currently 7000 students have registered.
Further he informed that students should also upload their data in the National Academic Depository under the UGC. Presently, the data of 70,000 students have been uploaded, he said.
This will ensure that any academic information is easily available to the students and also facilitate smooth transfer of students within the university or from one university to another, said the VC. Notably, Prof Ch Ibohal Meetei, Director, Research and Development Cell; Prof Ch Ibohal Singh, HoD, Department of Library Science and Assistant Prof (Manipuri) Dr Longjam Anand attended the event as resource persons.
