IMPHAL, Aug 30 : Womenfolk of Khwairamband Ima Keithel Lukmai Sellup and Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace (KIKJCCFP) staged protests near Raj Bhavan and Khwairamband Keithel respectively strongly condemning yesterday's Assembly session which ended in a damp squib and made a mockery of the public.
At the protest demonstration carried out roughly 500 meters away from Raj Bhavan Main Gate along the Kanglapat Road,  Asem Nirmala, general secretary, Khwairamband Ima Keithel Lukmai Sellup demanded the resignation of the political leaders who are incapable of protecting the people.
She stated that people had raised the demand for a special Assembly session with the hope that a discussion on the restive situation of the State will take place. However, the 'namesake' Assembly session held yesterday made a mockery of the people's demand.
Further calling for withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur, she maintained that neither is their presence required in the State nor are they taking an unbiased stance in dealing with the two communities.
Later, the womenfolk headed towards the Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum listing their demands to the Governor.
Meanwhile, Y Ibeyaima, convenor of Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace (KIKJCCFP) expressed deep discontentment with the Assembly session saying that it pulling wool over the public's eye.
Speaking to media persons at the sit-in protest organised by KIKJCCFP at Khwairamband Keithel today, Y Ibeyaima  stated that the session was adjourned after a mere 11 minute without discussing any of the prevailing issues. With that, the hopes that people had pinned on the Assembly session have been dashed, she said.
Urging the State Government to remember that the Keithel womenfolk have the power to sacrifice their lives for Manipur, she appealed for another Assembly session to bring back peace in the State.
Citing the failure of the BJP Government to restore peace despite assurances to the contrary by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, KIKJCCFP co-convenor Laishram Mema asserted that the 'double engine' of the BJP Government has failed and ceased to function.
She also urged the State and Central Government to put a stop to the attacks launched by Kuki militants which have led to many casualties and deaths, including innocent farmers.
