SAI-NERC, One India Foundation celebrate National Sports Day

IMPHAL, Aug 30
As celebrated across the Nation, Sports Authority of India-North East Regional Centre (SAI-NERC), Imphal, One India Foundation and others observed the National Sports Day yesterday.
The day is observed in honour of the three time hockey olympic champion Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary.
SAI-NERC observed the day with an inter house competition (4 houses- Thangal, Paona, Tikendrajit and Gaidinliu) among athletes and staff of the institute in various outdoor and fun games including football, dodgeball, shot put, volleyball, said Assistant Director (Pers & Admin) SAI-NERC in a statement.
House Gaidinliu were adjudged overall team champions and earned the Major Dhyan Chand Trophy 2023 as house Paona finished runners up, it said.
T Nilamani, NCOE In-Charge; Kh Lokendra Singh, In-Charge SAI STC-Utlou; B Gunicha Devi, Senior Archery Coach, SAI and Laijing L Maring, Assistant Director SAI-NERC attended the closing ceremony and prize distribution programme, it added.
One India Foundation also observed the day with a team of the organisation visiting St Joseph School, Imphal.
The team led by Meitram Sanatomba, National general secretary of One India Foundation also shared the significance of the observation of the day with the students, said a statement of One India Foundation.
The team also assured support to students interested in sports, it said.
