Kh Niken to captain Indian sepak takraw team at 19th Asian Games

IMPHAL, Sep 10 : Manipur's Khangembam Niken has been handed over the captaincy of Indian men's sepak takraw team for the 19th Asian Games to be hosted by China at Hangzhou from September 23 to October 8.
The Youth Amateur Welfare Association (YAWA), Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai has expressed delight over the news of honouring Kh Niken, son of Kh Damu of Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai with the captaincy.
In a statement, YAWA said that it is extremely happy to see its athlete being named as the captain of the Indian team and extended best wishes to Niken and all State players featuring in the Sepak takraw and other disciplines.
It may be recalled that, Niken led Indian team had finished third at the 18th Asian Games held in 2018.
As many as 44 athletes from Manipur are set to represent India in 10 disciplines [Aquatic (1), Cycling (2), Judo (1), Rowing (2), Weightlifting (2), Wushu (3), Kayaking and Canoeing (7), Sepaktakraw (10), Football (13) and Hockey (3)] at the continental event.
Besides Niken, John Laishram, Henary Wahengbam, Akash Yumnam and Malemnganba Sorokhaibam are also in the Indian team.
Meanwhile, Maipak Devi Ayekam, Leirentonbi Devi Elangbam, Priya Devi Elangbam are in the women's regu team as Chaoba Oinam and Ayekpam Priya are named in the quadrant team.
The India contingent will field 635 athletes at the Asian Games across 38 different sports at the Hangzhou event.
