Need for promoting martial art form Thang-Ta highlighted

Thoubal, Sep 16: The two-month long training programme on '2nd Production on Thang-Ta gi Yannaba Makhalsing' (production on Thang-Ta tactics) organised by Association for Paona Memorial Arts and Rural Development Services (APMARDS) concluded today.
The training programme was conducted under the aegis of Chief Minister gi Artistes singgi Tengbang (CMAT), Department of Art and Culture.
The valedictory function of the training programme was held at New Era Higher Secondary School, Thoubal Okram Wangmataba graced by renowned singer and actor Hamom Sadananda; New Era Higher Secondary School Principal Th Kumar; Founder Chairman N Ojit and Ak Sanjoy of Communicative English Language Training Institute (CELTI) as the presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, APMARDS Secretary K Hemchandra Sharma stated that the association has been conducting training programme on various tactics of Thang-Ta at different places over the past two decades with the objective of promoting this indigenous martial art form of Manipur which hold utmost significance in terms of tradition and culture.
He also highlighted the importance of practicing Thang-Ta artform by the students to stay fit and healthy in addition to their academic curriculum.
He further spoke about various schemes and fellowship with regard to Thang-Ta artform. Speaking as the chief guest, Hamom Sadananda lauded the New Era Higher Secondary School for inducting Thang-Ta as a subject in the school curriculum and extended best wishes to the school and students for this noble endeavour.
As a part of the programme, the attendees observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the martyrs of the ongoing conflict in the State.
The trainees also displayed performances on Thang-Ta tactics. Certificates were also distributed to the trainees and artists.
