IMPHAL, Sep 18: Demanding unconditional release of the five village defence volunteers arrested by police, a 48 hour bandh has been called with effect from Monday midnight.
All Langthabal Kendra Clubs Coordinating Committee president Yumnam Hitler made an announcement to this effect at Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai this evening.
Hitler said that a public meeting held in connection with the arrest of the five village defence volunteers resolved to impose a bandh with effect from September 18 midnight.
If the five village defence volunteers are not released within 48 hours, the bandh would be followed by different modes of intense agitation, he said.
If village defence volunteers are arrested in such an arbitrary manner, no one would be willing to come forward to defend Meitei villages against attacks by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists in the future, Hitler said.
Essential services and media would be exempted from the purview of the bandh, he said.
