IMPHAL, Sep 18 : Students of DM College of Science today staged a protest at the College campus denouncing the hike in admission fees of B.SC 5th Semester and BPES 6th Semester by the management.
Students taking part in the protest shouted slogans such as, "We condemn admission fee hike", "Education is not business to earn profit", "Make admission fee affordable" "Incompetent DM SC principal should resign", "Protect rights of students", etc.
Speaking to the media, DM College of Science Students Union general secretary, Laimayum Tina shared that the increase in the admission fees of B.Sc 5th and BPES 6th Semester as per the Admission Notice issued by the College will add to the financial burden of the students who are already facing a lot of difficulties due to the present unrest in the State.
She also condemned the DM SC Principal and relevant authorities for allegedly using harsh & abusive words against the students who tried to meet them in regard to the hike in admission fee.
She expressed disappointment over the failure of the College management to consider the difficulties faced by the students due to the present crisis and issued the Admission Notice with a hike in admission fees instead of providing concession or fee exemption.
Pointing out that many students of the College are taking shelter at various relief camps, she conveyed that such inconsiderate decisions of the management will force students who can't afford the admission fee to give up their education entirely.
Tina further appealed to the authorities concerned and Government to look into the matter and take necessary steps to support the students at the earliest.
