IMPHAL, Sep 18 : The Coalition Against Drug & Alcohol celebrated its 17th foundation day in a low-key manner at Palace Compound today.
The programme was graced by All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) president Thokchom Ramani, CADA president Hijam Priyokumar and advisor to United People's Front (UPF) Laishangbam Jadu.
The gatherings offered floral tributes to the portraits of the founding members of CADA.
At the event, Th Ramani said that CADA was established to fight drug menace and secure the future of Manipur. Saying that women especially have been fighting drug abuse and other social ills since decades back, Ramani continued that the meira paibis (womenfolk) have also been urging the Government to destroy drug manufacturing units and poppy plantations in Manipur.
She said that the meira paibis still object to the legalisation of ganja as the initiative is detrimental to the society.
Claiming that the ongoing crisis in Manipur was engineered by the drug syndicate to plant poppies in the State widespreadly without any disturbance, the Nupi Samaj president alleged that Meeteis are being targeted because of the crackdown on poppy plantations by the Government.
Ramani urged the Government and the people to put up a collective fight against drug misuse and poppy plantations and make Manipur a vibrant State.
