Abducted Army jawan found killed

IMPHAL, Sep 18 : Unidentified persons abducted and killed a personnel of the Indian Army on leave, Sepoy Serto Thangthang Kom, said PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement.
According to the statement, the slain soldier was abducted from his home at Tarung, Neikanlong, Happy Valley in Imphal West at around 10 am on September 16.
He was deployed at Leimakhong Military Station, Manipur.
As per the statement of his 10 year old son, who is the only eyewitness, three miscreants entered their home while the father and son were working on the porch and placed a pistol on his father’s head and forced him into a white coloured vehicle, and drove away, the PIB (Defence Wing) said.
Saying that the body of the slain soldier was found the next morning (September 17) at around 9.30 am at Khuningthek under Sagol-mang Police Station in Imphal East, the PIB (DW) continued that the identity of the deceased has been confirmed by his brother and brother-in-law. Continuing that the soldier who breathed his last at the hand of miscreants is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son, it added that the Army strongly condemns the killing of Sepoy Serto Thangthang Kom and stands by his family in these difficult times.
The last rites of Thangthang Kom will be held at Waikhong near Kakching tomorrow at 11.30 am with full military honours.
