Training programme on 'Pest and Disease Management' organised

Ukhrul, Sep 18: A one-day training programme on 'Pest and Disease Management' was conducted for the farmers registered under Orientale Farmers Producer Company (Ltd) at the community hall of Nungbi Khullen village in Ukhrul district.
The one day training programme was organised by Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS) in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra ( KVK), Ukhrul supported by Manipur Organic Mission Agency under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) Phase-II.
Dr Solei Luiram, Head of KVK, Ukhrul who attended as the main resource person of the training programme enlightened the farmers on prevention of diseases and how to protect the plants from attack by the pests.
He said pests and plant disease management has become a major challenge for farmers in Ukhrul district.
Talking about some effective preventive measures, he said that crop rotation is one of simplest ways to protect from various plant diseases.
Solei further urged the farmers to regularly remove wild plants in their respective fields. As a part of the support scheme for farmers, KVK also distributed organic pesticides to the farmers.
The training programme was also attended by District Coordinator DSSS Y Solomon and Leishingam Luikham staff.
The training programme was attended by altogether 47 members from four Farmers Interest Groups (FIGs) of Ura, Khayarrin, Worngayim and Semmirin who are mainly into turmeric cultivation as progressive crops under Orientale FPC.
It is worth noting that Diocesan Social Service Society has been organising a number of training programmes for the welfare of farmers in the district.
