Slain Army jawan laid to rest

IMPHAL, Sep 19 : The last rites of Indian Army soldier Serto Thangthang Kom was held at his village at Litan in Chandel district, today.
A press release issued by PIB (Defence Wing) said that the slain soldier was abducted on September 16 from his residence at Happy Valley, Langol Tarung in Imphal West by unknown miscreants while his body was found the next morning (September 17) at Khuningthek in Imphal East.
It said that the last rite was conducted with full military honours and was attended by the family members, villagers and officers of Army, Assam Rifles and district administration.
The deceased is survived by his wife, daughter and a son.
IANS adds : The Manipur Government has established a one-man Inquiry Commission led by Inspector General of Police, Zone-1, Themthing Ngashangva, to investigate the killing of the Indian Army soldier. The inquiry report is expected to be submitted to the Government within one month. In response to the tragic incident, numerous individuals from the Kom tribe, including men and women, organized extensive protests in Imphal and other parts of the State.
