DIMAPUR, Sep 19: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu called for the "responsible utilization of the Northeast's natural resources and the promotion of tourism while ensuring that local communities also reap the benefits".
Rio was addressing the inaugural function of the Northeastern States' Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Conclave at Niathu Resort at Chumoukedima near Dimapur in Nagaland on Monday.
The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) hosted the event.
Rio then highlighted the Northeastern states as a powerhouse of untapped potential, offering unique opportunities for growth. He emphasized the region's distinctive geographical and cultural interconnectedness with Southeast Asia.
Rio also stressed the significance of India's Act East policy, describing it as a golden opportunity to harness the vast potential for trade and investment.
He urged all stakeholders to come together and explore innovative ways to leverage this policy for the benefit of the Northeastern region.
Neiphiu Rio also called for the responsible utilization of the Northeast's natural resources and the promotion of tourism while ensuring that local communities also reap the benefits. He encouraged participants at the conclave to identify areas where they can complement each other's strengths and work collaboratively to create a roadmap for further cooperation.
Rio also mentioned the establishment of the Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) in 2014 by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA).
He outlined plans to relax land laws, establish land banks, and introduce mechanisms to boost investor confidence, particularly in the foothill areas of the state.
In his concluding remarks, Rio pledged full support to the North East SCC&I (Chamber of Commerce and Industry) for the economic growth of the region. He emphasized the importance of interdependence, teamwork, and collaborative partnerships in achieving the shared goals of the Northeastern states.
Special guests Sunil Jeevrajji Singhi, Chairman of the National Traders Welfare Board, and Rupam Goswami, Convenor of CoNESCCI (Confederation of Northeastern States Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and Chairman of the Assam Chamber of Commerce & Industry, delivered short speeches and the keynote address, respectively.
