MoA signed: IMC sweepers to receive minimum wage, coverage under ESIC

Under Section 12 (2) of the Industrial Dispute Act 1947, the Imphal Municipal Corporation, MAHUD and Safai Karamchari Sangh Manipur signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) assuring minimum wage, Employees State Insurance Scheme (ESIC) cover and implementation of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) rules and regulation for Safai Karamcharis (sweepers) today.
The agreement was signed under the guidance of the Manipur State Labour Department's Conciliation Officer, Peter Salam, during a conciliation proceeding held at the office of Manipur Labour Commission to bring about 'industrial harmony', said a statement issued by SKSM.
Elaborating on the agreements reached during the conciliation proceeding, the statement said that cases of long time employees/sweepers of Imphal Municipal Corporation will be duly discussed when regularization becomes imminent. Additionally, it added that Imphal Municipal Corporation sweepers will be given cover under ESIC. Further, as per the agreement, proper implementation of the rules and regulations under EPFO with regards to contract/casual sweepers will be taken up and a daily minimum wage of Rs 255 set by the Manipur State Labour Department in September 2021 will be given to them, said the statement.
Notably, the conciliation proceeding was attended by Joyce Kemp, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Imphal Municipal Corporation; Sharda M, Assistant Director, MAHUD and Tarajit Okram, MIS, MUDA representing the employer and A Premkumar Singh, general secretary, All Manipur Trade Unions Council (AMTUC), Th Sanatombi Devi, president SKSM and Ng Baby, joint secretary SKSM representing the employees.
Labour Inspectors M Bheigyachandra Singh and K Tikendra Singh were also present at the proceeding.
