KANGPOKPI, Sep 8 : The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM),  Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) and Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) have condemned the Pallel gunfight today.
KIM claimed that one Kuki village volunteer was killed in the firing and many houses torched at Pallel today while ITLF claimed that one jawan and a village volunteer were killed in today's gunfight.
KIM information and publicity secretary Janghaolun Haokip said that the recent appointment of retired Colonel Nectar Sanjenbam to the post of Senior SP (Combat), Tengnoupal District is controversial.
He also claimed that the N Biren Singh-led Government not only 'refused to take real action' to prevent attacks but only stoked the flame of violence.
The KIM leader threatened that security and stability in Manipur will not be achieved until the Kuki people attain their 'right to govern and administer under a separate political unit devoid of Meiteis’ hegemony.'
Kuki Inpi Manipur will, under no circumstance, accept co-existence with oppression, suppression, and the evil forces persistently attempting to obliterate the Kukis, he asserted.
The Committee on Tribal Unity, Kangpokpi also strongly condemned the gunfight at Pallel and termed the appointment of retired Col Nectar Sanjenbam as SSP (Combat) as "illegal".
The CoTU Media Cell stated that the appointment of a retired Meitei Army officer as a Senior Superintendent of Police is an outright attempt to pursue the ulterior motives of the State leadership.
The gunfight at Pallel, Molnoi area is a clear outcome of the appointment of the said Army Officer in the State police department, it alleged.
The CoTU urged the Centre Government to revoke the appointment of the retired Colonel as a Senior Superintendent of Police (Combat) to maintain the sanctity of the Indian Army.
There will be numerous protests against the 'illegal appointment', it said.
The ITLF too condemned the gunfight at Pallel area in the strongest terms.
ITLF claimed that one jawan and a village volunteer were killed in today's gunfight at Pallel.
