Lions Club of Imphal celebrates 145th birth anniversary of Melvin Jones

Lions Club of Imphal on Saturday celebrated the 145th birth anniversary of Melvin Jones, founder of Lions Club International at Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou, Imphal.
According to a release issued by Manas Maisnam, secretary, Lions Club of Imphal, the celebration began with the offering of floral tributes to a photograph of Melvin Jones by members of Lions Club of Imphal.
As part of the observance, a Diabetes Detection & Awareness Camp was conducted on the theme, "Beat Diabetes".
The camp was organised under the 'One Multiple One Activity' project of the club.
Around 60 people were screened for diabetes during the camp.
Additionally, an Eye-Screening OPD was also organised.
It may be mentioned that Melvin Jones was born on January 13, 1879, at Fort Thomas, Arizona, a remote US Army cavalry post where his father was a scout for the Army.
Under the visionary leadership of Melvin Jones, the Lions Club was established in June 1917. Lions Club is one of the biggest service organisations in the world with more than 48000 clubs in over 200 countries and about 1.4 million members.
