FDP on 'Mushroom cultivation' held

In a significant leap towards enhancing agricultural education, T S Paul Manipur Women’s College, Mongsangei, today launched a week-long Comprehensive Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 'Mushroom Cultivation'.
About 70 faculty members from various colleges across the State are taking part in the FDP conducted under the sponsorship of the Directorate of University & Higher Education, Government of Manipur.
According to a release issued by Th Nandita Devi, Principal of the College, the FDP aims to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and skill development among educators.
The FDP aims to cultivate awareness of the economic potential inherent in mushroom farming. Educators, armed with this knowledge, are expected to play a pivotal role in initiating and guiding small-scale mushroom cultivation ventures, contributing significantly to the socio-economic landscape of their respective communities.
During the FDP, Dr Akoijam Chingkheihunba, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, South Asian Institute of Rural & Agricultural Management, delved into sustainable agro waste management through mushroom cultivation while Dr Konjengbam Sarda Devi, DBT Biocare Women Scientist, IBSD, spoke on Shiitake Mushroom (Lentinula edodes) as a high-value crop for agripreneurship development.
Dr Nongmaithem Suraj Kumar and Dr Dayabati Sagapam were the coordinators of the FDP jointly organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Department of Biotechnology, and Department of Botany of the College.
