BISHNUPUR, Jan 4: Meira paibis of Kumbi have demanded cancellation of the FIR filed by Manipur police against Ithai Loukon meira paibis for allegedly chasing away personnel of Mahar Regiment on January 2 within three days.
Opposing the filing of FIR and the efforts of the police to arrest the meira paibis, Kumbi Keithel was closed today and a protest demonstration was staged here.
Speaking in this connection, H Ibenungshi, general secretary, Ithai Nupicha Association claimed that the womenfolk were tending to and guarding the fields at Ithai Loukon on January 2 when personnel of Mahar Regiment stealthily entered the area.
The womenfolk asked the security personnel to leave but in response the personnel kept delaying their departure and instead became rude and disrespectful, H Ibenungshi claimed.
Thereafter, the womenfolk who were also meira paibis, chased away the Mahar Regiment personnel and Manipur Police subsequently filed an FIR against some of the women in this connection.
H Ibenungshi cautioned that if the FIR is not cancelled within three days, meira paibis of the State will launch an intense agitation in response.
Meanwhile, W Sarda, vice president, Womens' Wing, Unified Command and Control Committee Kumbi strongly condemned the FIR lodged against meira paibis who have been significantly involved in upholding the territorial integrity of Manipur during the ongoing crisis. She further questioned why the Central security forces had ventured into Ithai Loukon which is a peaceful region.
Such unacceptable behaviour has made the public lose their faith in Central forces, she maintained.
Additionally, the Kumbi Kendra Apunba Meira Paibi Lup is set to submit a memorandum to SP Bishnupur in this connection, she added.
During the protest, the womenfolk held many placards with messages such as "We oppose arrest of meira paibis", "Meira paibis cannot be dragged to Court", "Cancel FIR against meira paibis" etc.
The protest was attended by meira paibis from various localities of Kumbi AC.
