IMPHAL, Oct 27 : LMYVA were crowned boys' champions in the 28th State Youth Basketball Championship 2024 as they edged ESU, Wangkhei by 40-38 points in a keenly contested final clash staged this evening at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.
LMYVA, who thumped Youth Club, Uripok 75-41 in a semi-final clash, were trailing 5-10 at the end of the first period but staged a spirited fightback in the remaining quarters to seal the narrow victory courtesy of an impressive performance by Th Thoungamba who added 24 points alone.
He also scored a triple in the second period to hand LMYVA an 18-16 lead against ESU after two periods.
S Leingakpa also contributed 7 points to LMYVA's tally in this closely fought match as Owen and S Darwin added 5 and 4 points respectively.
On the other hand, H Rishikanta topscored for ESU with 21 points as he found the target 14 times while M Telheiba scored 10 points including a triple.
B Milkan also added 5 points including a triple while John Kenedy contributed 2 points.
Yesterday, ESU defeated YOSC, Khurai by 42-31 points to seal the girls' title.
In all 10 boys teams clubbed into two groups and 3 girls teams participated in the 28th edition of the championship organised by the Manipur Basketball Association from October 18.
