MUC allotted 118 acres

IMPHAL, Nov 9 : Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sana-jaoba has said that the Government has acquired a land measuring 118 acres at Wakha in Imphal East to set up a permanent campus of Manipur University of Culture (MUC).
Speaking as the chief guest at the 3rd 2-day Cultural cum Literary Meet held at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society today, the MP  conti- nued that clearance was given for the acquisition of the land by the Forest Department.
The land was entrusted to MUC on September 18, 2024, he added.
Saying that the Government will start the cons- truction of the varsity very soon, Leisemba added that the Centre has started sanctioning funds for the construction.
He thanked Chief  Minister N Biren  Singh for seeking clearance from the Centre for acquiring the land
Continuing that love for culture and sports is  ingrained in Manipuris, the MP said that he will continue to work to upgrade Manipur University of Culture to a Central university.
There are 1113 universities in India as per a report published  by UGC in January 2024 of which only three are cultural universities, he said and added that MUC was the second cultural university to be established in India.
Renowned film-maker Padmashri Aribam Syam Sarma and MUC Vice Chancellor P Gunindro also attended the  programme, among others.
