IMPHAL, Nov 18: Maremei is the correct name of the village, and it shouldn't be called Ramkamai, said the Liangmai Naga Council, an apex body of the Liangmai tribe in Manipur today as it appealed to the GPRN to withdraw an order it issued earlier. An October 15 order of the GPRN referred to Maremei village as Ramkamai village, which is unfamiliar to the Liangmai tribe. The correct and officially registered name of the village is Maremei village, "as recognised by our records and the Manipur Govt Gazette, it said. "The matter in question pertains to an internal family issue within the village of Liangmai people. Such issues fall under the purview of the Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur, and are best resolved within the framework of Liangmai customs and practices, which are deeply rooted in the traditions passed down by our forefathers," said the LNC-M, urging the GPRN to withdraw the order concerning Maremei village. Withdrawing the order will enable the community to address and resolve the matter amicably in the best interests of the community and broader Naga solidarity, it said. Newmai News Network
