IMPHAL, Nov 26: NH-37 or Imphal-Jiribam highway is still blocked by landslide and as a result transportation of essential items on the highway has remained suspended for the past six days.
Nonetheless, there is no interruption in movement of trucks and other goods carriers on NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur highway).
Notably, a huge landslide struck NH-37 near Kotlen last Thursday. Consequently, the highway was cut off.
Before the landslide struck the highway, strong protests seen at Jiribam against the abduction and cold blooded murder of three children and three women by Kuki-Zo-Hmar terrorists led to suspension of transport service on the highway for 10 days.
As a result, petrol stock in the IOCL’s Malom depot has been depleting fast.
On the other hand, NHIDCL is still unable to clear the rocks and earth blocking the highway.
It is expected that the NHIDCL would be able to reopen the highway on Wednesday.
Currently, a large number of loaded trucks and 250 oil tankers and LPG bullet tankers are stranded at Noney, Nungba,  Kambiron and Shanti Khunou.
With the highway still blocked, empty trucks are also not moving from Imphal.
Nevertheless, around 200 to 250 loaded trucks are coming to Imphal on Im-phal-Dimapur  highway every day.
Moreover, six to 10 loaded oil tankers are coming to Imphal in a day while five to six LPG bullet tankers come in after a gap of every few days, sources said.
