IMPHAL, Nov 26 : Former Chief Minister Okam Ibobi has accused the BJP led Government in Manipur of being tyrannical on the occasion of the Constitution Day.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Party (MPCC) observed the 75th Constitution Day at Congress Bhavan today.
Speaking at the function, Ibobi, who is the leader of Congress Legislative Party (CLP), continued that people have the right to stand against any form of tyranny in a democratic set up like India.
Accusing the Government of violating Constitutional provisions and running the State with a dictatorial mindset, the Congress leader said that it is time for the people to question the conduct of both the BJP led Government in Manipur and the Centre.
He further stated that those who speak against the wrongdoings of the Government are being threatened and arrested time and again which goes against all democratic norms.
Continuing that the BJP led Government in Manipur won't last long as people have rejected them, the former Chief Minister added that the Congress party will always stand up against tyrannical rule so as to give people the taste of democracy.
The Government in Manipur is like a flickering light, he added.
Saying that the Congress party doesn't want to take political mileage by throwing unfounded charges against the Government, Ibobi added that the Government, however, won't be allowed to run the State based on their fancy and whims.
Ibobi then appealed to one and all to lend a hand in safeguarding the ethos of democracy and the Indian Constitution.
MPCC president K Meghachandra claimed that the Centre and the State Government don't respect the rights of the people and the same can be seen in their acts.
He also said that Government's departments and institutions have also been violating Constitutional norms under the current regime.
Saying that three Assembly sessions-Budget session, Autumn session and Winter session have to be conducted in a year as per the rule, he said that no initiative is seen as of yet to summon the Winter session of the Assembly though it is almost December.
Maintaining that the Government has also been withholding the Autonomous District Council, Municipality and Panchayat elections, Meghachandra added that not holding the election itself is a violation of Constitutional provisions.
There is no economic justice, social justice and political justice in Manipur, he said and added that the high handedness of the double engine Government has failed to protect the rights of people.
CPI (M) State secretary Ksh Santa also attended the programme among others.
During the function, Meghachandra distributed a copy of the Constitution to the gathering and they took a pledge to uphold the Indian Constitution.
