CACHAR, Feb 12: A team of All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) met with the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswas Sarma today and discussed many agendas in the interest of Manipuris in Assam.
A statement by the general secretary AAMSU-Central Committee said that the members of AAMSU which met with the Assam Chief Minister were AAMSU-Central Committee president Ngasepam Sanahal, general secretary Ashangbam Swapan, AAMSU- Lakhipur District Committee president, Mutum Thoiba and former AAMSU member Leishungbam Inga Ngamba.
The main agendas which were put forth in today's meeting include the proposal of upgradation of Manipuri Boys' Hostel in Silchar to the status of G+3 and above 100 bedded capacity building.
Taking note of the importance of the above proposal, the Chief Minister of Assam assured to start the process for the same at the earliest. Further the Assam's Chief Minister also gave assurance to look into the long pending demand of inclusion of Manipuri language in the official languages of Assam and take up appropriate steps regarding the demand after consulting with the relevant officials.
In view of the inconveniences faced by AAMSU in the absence of a political representative and higher authorities, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswas Sarma advised the AAMSU team to contact him anytime and gave the contact details of his officials for the purpose.
