Ukhrul, Feb 19: Transport, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Khashim Vashum underscored the need of preserving and reviving the culture and tradition of one's community to safeguard oneself from losing their identity.
The Minister was speaking at the valedictory function of Hunphun Luira Phanit 2024 (Annual seed sowing festival) held at Mission Ground Alungtang Ukhrul today.
The Minister highlighted the importance of celebrating traditional festivals as it is vital in keeping alive the aged tradition and culture so as to pass on the beautiful heritage to the upcoming generations.
Extending his greetings to the gathering, the Minister said that Hunphun village is the epicentre of revolutionizing the Tangkhul society.
He urged the Hunphun Hanga Wungnao to accommodate the non local residents of the village for more participation and to make the festival more vibrant.
The Minister went on to state that 'The mindset of adopting other cultures will lose our identity and must be discouraged by all'. To aid in improving road connectivity and to boost rural economy, the Minister declared that the Old British road in Ukhrul district will be renovated.
Themreishang A' Shimray who attended as the guest of honour of the festival expressed his grievous concern about the changing life style especially forgoing one's indigenous traditional activities in spite of its rich cultural heritage.
