IGNOU hosts 37th convocation ceremony

IMPHAL, Feb 20: Manipur University Vice Chancellor Professor Naorem Lokendro has underscored the momentous role of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Imphal in the realm of higher education.
The MU VC was speaking at the 37th convocation ceremony of IGNOU, popularly known as People's University, held today at Asha Hall, Asha Jina Complex, North AOC, Imphal.
Speaking as the guest of honour Professor N Lokendro congratulated the successful students and stated that higher education in India has witnessed an impressive growth over the years.
Highlighting the benefits of distance learning in the backdrop of the country's burgeoning population and the current performance of the youth, he stressed that IGNOU, with international recognition and presence, can go a long way in providing seamless access to sustainable and quality education by using innovative technologies and methodologies mandated in NEP 2020. He also said that IGNOU plays an important role in achieving the target of GER.
 In his keynote and welcome speech Dr Salam Dilan Singh, Regional Director, IGNOU Regional RC Imphal said that IGNOU RC Imphal  began its journey in 2000 with 3 Learner Support Centres.
The IGNOU RC Imphal was established to look after activities of the University in all the districts of the State. It caters to learners from rural and tribal areas, disability groups, jail inmates and rehabilitation centres, Government and non Government organisations, parents and home makers, the employed and employers, he said.
At present IGNOU RC, Imphal has 15 Learner Support Centres with approximately 20,000 learners on the roll. The Regional Director added that 751 learners under IGNOU RC Imphal are eligible for the 37th Convocation of IGNOU which includes 552 Master Degree, 160 Bachelors Degree 29 diplomas and 10 certificates.
The degrees were distributed to the successful learners by Professor N Lokendro Singh at today's ceremony.
Notably, the main function was organized at IGNOU New Delhi with Jagdeep Dhankar, Vice President of India as the chief guest.
Professor Nageshwar Rao, VC of IGNOU awarded the degree, diploma and certificates to the successful students who have passed the December 2022 and June 2023 Term End Examinations. Altogether 3,08,584 students were conferred degrees, diplomas and certificates.
