3rd Lt Col Robert TA Memorial Football Tournament begins

In a befitting tribute to Lt Col (Late) Robert TA, the Assam Rifles proudly inaugurated the 3rd edition of the Lt Col (Late) Robert TA Memorial Football Tournament in Senapati district today.
Lt Col (Late) Robert TA was the first Army Officer from the Maram Community. He sacrificed his life in an avalanche in North Sikkim on May 14, 2020 while leading a patrol.
Besides honouring his sacrifice, the tournament aims to foster the spirit of sportsmanship and unity, said IGAR (E) in a statement.
P Chingpai, wife of Lt Col (Late) Robert TA, unveiled the trophies to mark the opening of the tournament today. The event also featured delightful performances by the Assam Rifles Pipe Band, Jazz Band and captivating melodies by the budding young singers Alamlai and Namrita Rai, the statement said.
Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) and Commander of Jwalamukhi Sector Assam Rifles, added dignity to the occasion with their presence.
The highlight of the opening day was an exhibition match between the team of Assam Rifles and the Senapati District Olympic Association of Manipur, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship and football fervour, it said.
The tournament is set to culminate on February 17 where the final match will be held in the presence of the Governor.
The football tournament not only pays homage to the brave officer but also stands as a testament to the enduring power of sports in bringing communities together, the statement continued.
