
IMPHAL, Feb 6 : Union Minister of State for Culture and External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi released a Manipuri folklore book "Feathers, Fools and Farts" at New Delhi, today.
During the function, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), New Delhi in association with Penguin and Imasi Foundation curated interaction with the authors of the book L Somi Roy and Dr Thangjam Hindustani Devi.
The illustrations of the book are done by Dr Sapha Yumnam based on Subika paintings which are intricately linked to the Meitei’s cultural history.
Along with the authors, an excerpt from the book was read by Union MoS Meenakshi Lekhi.
Meenakshi Lekhi read the story from the book The Autumn Lamp – Mera Wa Yungba which symbolizes the deep sense of brotherhood and unity among the Meiteis and Tangkhuls.
At the function, L Somi Roy said that the launch of Feathers, Fools and Farts by NGMA was special to him as it was the first Manipuri art programme to be held at the museum.
Dr Hindustani, on the other hand, said that the release of the book will play an important role in highlighting Manipuri art as a unique art form.
