CHAMP, KCC win in 11th Manipur Veteran T-20 Cricket Tournament

IMPHAL, Feb 8 : KCC-Kongba and CHAMP-Khagempalli secured victories to top Group B and D respectively in the 11th Manipur Veteran T-20 Cricket Tournament being underway at Langthabal Public Ground.
In the final Group B match of the tournament, KCC defeated MODEL by 40 runs to finish group runners up and qualify for the quarter finals along with group winners NAPSA.
KCC amassed 196 runs for 2 thanks to half centuries from Mahendra 80 and Bonny 87 not out and held MODEL to 156 for 5 to seal the second win in three matches.
For MODEL, Jotish and Saratchandra picked a wicket apiece before Iboyaima hit a 48-ball 58 in a lost cause.
Sonjoy (2/28) claimed two wickets for KCC as Barneshwor and Bonny grabbed a wicket apiece to apply pressure on MODEL batters. Bonny of KCC who hit a half century and picked one wicket was adjudged man of the match.
Meanwhile in a Group D match, CHAMP finished group winners as they sealed a four wicket win over SHADOW-Thangmeiband. Despite the loss, SHADOW finished group runners up and sealed their place in the quarter finals.
SHADOW, after electing to bat first, racked up a competitive total of 187 for three wickets on the back of Dhaneshor's unbeaten 69-ball 100 but CHAMP batters put in a concerted effort to seal the victory with four deliveries and four wickets left to spare.
Nongdrenkhomba 27* and Jayanta 22 also made significant contributions to SHADOW's tally but contributions from Gopeshor 40, Bonny 38, Ratan 31, John 20*, Sanjoy 20 and Surjit 18 were more than enough for CHAMP to seal the win.
For CHAMP, John picked two wickets and Bonny claimed one.
For SHADOW, Jayanta claimed two wickets (2/30) as Pyarlal, Dhawan, Bedamohon and Meiraba shared four wickets among them. Bonny of CHAMP who added 38 and claimed one wicket was named man of the match.
Tomorrow, YWC-L will play CYCLONE for the Group C  pole position. Both having won a match each, have already qualified for the quarter finals from the three-team group.
