Th Kunjarani bags boxing gold as MU conclude IV KIUG with 8 medals

IMPHAL, Feb 29 : Thongjam Kunjarani clinched a gold  medal to help Manipur University capped their campaign in the IV Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023-24 with 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
In the games which was hosted in Guwahati, Kunjarani picked up the last gold medal for Manipur by beating Poonam Kaithwas of SGB Amravati University in the women's 57-60 category final today.
The other gold medals were won by Alson Oinam in the men's discus throw competition, Waikhom Sonia in the women's individual foil event and the women's foil team comprising  Waikhom Sonia, Naorem Mina, Daiyarani Ningthoujam and Gurumayum Priyalaxmi.
The only silver medal for MU was earned by men's sabre team (fencing) of Seram Chingkheinganba, Lairellak-pam Chingkheinganba, Remo Oinam and Klearin Maibam as Naorem Mina (foil individual), Huidrom Bhumeshwory (1,500 m race) and women's epee team of Linthoi Haobam, Keisham Chandrika, Naorem Robina and Phamdom Bijiya bagged bronze medals.
The Vice Chancellor, Dean of Students' Welfare, Registrar and members of the Sports Committee of the University have extended congratulations to the athletes on producing a better performance than previous editions of the games.
