DNA test frees man

IMPHAL, Mar 23 : A man who was accused of impregnating a minor and remanded to judicial custody for nearly five months was granted bail on March 21 by the Court of Special Judge (POCSO)after it was found that he is not the biological father in DNA testing.
The person who has been given interim bail is Md Suleiman (26), s/o Md Manigun of Thoubal Moijing Khongok.
Suleiman was arrested by Thoubal women police on October 16, 2023 but he denied the charge that he impregnated the minor.
Considering his argument, the Court asked the authorities concerned to undergo a DNA test but sent Suleiman to judicial custody on October 23.
The minor delivered a baby on January 6.
Blood samples of Suleiman, the minor and the newborn were collected at the Forensic Department of JNIMS on February 1.
The result of the DNA test were submitted before the Court of Thoubal Special Judge (POCSO) on March 20.
After going through the DNA test result, the Court on March 21 ruled that Suleiman is not the biological father of the baby and granted him interim bail.
Speaking to the media after he was released, Suleiman said that he spent eight days in lock-up after he was arrested by police on October 16 before spending the next five months in jail.
He thanked the Court and the IO of  the case for revealing the truth despite taking some time.
