IMPHAL, Mar 24 : EnAble India’s Hamari Vaani, a social networking platform designed for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) was introduced in Manipur on Saturday.
The promotion event held at Welfare Association for the Blind Manipur (WABM), Takyel was graced by Waikhom Birahari Singh, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and Lohrii Francis from Enable India.
EnAble India, a non-profit organisation based in Bengaluru, has been a pioneer in developing initiatives for the welfare & economic independence of PwDs. One such innovation is the 'Hamari Vaani' social networking platform in Hindi for PwDs, which can be accessed through a mobile phone without internet.
This platform provides users the access to share and connect on topics such as employment, skilling and solutions to overcome disability, information about disability, opportunities and more.
Parents, NGOs, Companies, Government organisations (DDWO, MRW, VRW, DPO) and volunteers can also use the platform to network with PwDs across India.
Speaking on the occasion, Lohrii Francis who came to promote Hamari Vaani in Imphal, said "There are users who not only get information about disabilities or daily solutions from other peers, some even land up in jobs through information published in Vaani".
Waikhom Birahari Singh lauded the efforts of WABM and EnAble India and assured the congregation of persons gathered that equal opportunities will be ensured for PwDs.
Notably, EnAble India in partnership with WABM currently runs a computer and employability training for the visually impaired at their centre at Takyel.
