IMPHAL, Mar 24: The Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur (PLAMPM) has decided to stay away from the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to media persons at their Khoyathong office today, PLAMPM president Soraisam Memcha Leima said that they would not participate in the 18th Lok Sabha elections under any circumstances.
Even though both the Central Government and the State Government have been making elaborate preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, PLAMPM condemns it in the strongest terms, she said.
Since May 3, 2023, a large number of people including women and aged persons have been killed in the most barbaric manner at different fringe and peripheral areas.
Considering the plight of those people who fled for their lives after their houses were burnt down by armed Kukis and are currently taking shelter in relief camps, the PLAMPM has resolved to stay away from the ensuing elections, Memcha said.
Conspicuously overlooking the fact Manipur is a part of India, the Central Government did not do anything to stop the sustained Kuki aggression, she said.
“While conveniently maintaining a deafening silence all these months, they want us to join the election process. The Government of India and the State Government must know that we are not dead”, Memcha asserted.
They must know that the Meitei people cannot be suppressed nor should they invite a third Nupi Lan, she added.
