NESU, FC Lamjao post contrasting wins as MPSC hold USA in 6-goal thriller

IMPHAL, Apr 10 : FC Lamjao sealed a narrow 1-0 win over NACO, Nambul Mapal as NESU, Khurai romped 4-0 past Rahee UC in Group B encounters of the 16th Manipur State League today. The day also saw MPSC play out a 3-3 draw with NESU in a Group A match at DSA ground, Kakching.
In the third Group B match and today's first match, FC Lamjao sealed the narrow victory over NACO at DSA ground, Kakching through a freak first minute goal from Laishram Kishan Singh.
NACO toiled hard to pull level in both the halves but Lamjao FC did well to keep their lead throughout the game and earn first three points in the 15-team tournament.
Meanwhile, Phijam Sanathoi Meitei hit a brace to inspire NESU a comfortable 4-0 victory over Rahee UC at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong this afternoon.
NESU started strongly and broke the deadlock after 19 minutes through Phijam Sanathoi who went on to double the advantage in the 36th minute.
NESU piled further pressure on Rahee UC adding one more through Yumnam Monis Singh right before the break (45') before Ngathem Imarson added the team's fourth three minutes into the second half (48').
Rahee UC however managed to deter further goal by concentrating more in their defensive set up.
Meanwhile at DSA ground, Kakching, USA enjoyed a 2-1 lead but MPSC rallied back to salvage a 3-3 draw.
Ningthoujam Nepolian found the breakthrough for USA 7 minutes into the game but MPSC drew level in the 43rd minute off a penalty converted by Nongthombam Boyboysana.
The parity did not last long as hardworking USA managed to retain the lead with Chanam Akash finding the back of the net two minutes into the added time before the lemon break.
After the restart, USA carried forward their onslaught and enjoyed a two-goal advantage with Haobijam Tombi converting a fine chance in the 55th minute.
Back to back goals however could not dampen the spirit of the MPSC players as they fought back and reduced the margin by a goal through Wakambam Bisheshwor in the 64th minute before Khem Bahadur BK found the equaliser after 77 minutes of the game to dash USA's hope of registering full points today.Meanwhile, Jem Y Nilbir was part of the team as coach.
