Kuki offensive continues at Heirok

IMPHAL, Apr 15: Kuki militants perpetuated their offensive against Meitei villages of Heirok located in the peripheral area of Thoubal and Tengnoupal districts today too.
Sources said that a large number of Kuki militants holding sophisticated weapons from Penjang and Genjang villages descended from the nearby hill range and attacked Meitei villages of Heirok by firing indiscriminately this morning.
In defence, village volunteers retaliated by firing some rounds of bullets toward the Kuki militants and prevented them from advancing further toward the Meitei villages.
The gunfight lasted for some minutes before the Kuki militants fled from the spot toward the hill.
There was no report of any casualty on the part of the village volunteers.
The village volunteers and security personnel deployed in the area have been keeping a strict vigil in the area to defend the villages from further possible attacks from Kuki militants.
