14th State Junior Basketball ChampionshipsModel Club, LMYVA, ESU cruise to third wins; ESU win in women's opener

IMPHAL, Apr 15 : Model Club, Chingamakha, LMYVA, Lalambung and ESU, Wangkhei sealed their third straight victories to confirm their places in the boys' semi-finals of the ongoing 14th State Junior Basketball Championships as ESU girls kicked off their campaign on a winning note.
Model Club eased to their third group stage victory (Group B) by thrashing Chandel District Basketball Association (CDBA) 42-15 at Brahmapa Nahabam Basketball Court this morning courtesy of H Lamyanba (13 pts), M Mahesh (7 pts), N Jackim (6 pts), I Chinglemba (5 pts), H Lanchenba (4 pts), Th Badal (4 pts) and W Babloo (2 pts).
For the Chandel team, Blesson Pashel (9 pts), Giftson (4 pts) and Hinvalshing Khatter (2 pts) were the scorers.
In another Group B match, LMYVA overwhelmed NETA, Kangla Sangomshang 41-12  for the third win on the trot thanks to significant contributions from Suraj Paul (12 pts), M Lanchenba ( 7 pts), Seth Golmei (7 pts), H Zenith (6 pts) and M Owen (5 pts).
Robertson (6 pts), Cosco (4 pts) and Ng Dushan (2 pts) were the scorers for the losing team in this match.
Meanwhile, In the first Group A match of the day, ESU romped to a 30-11 win over Thoubal District Basketball Association to assure their place in the semi-finals.
Rishikanta took centre-stage in this one sided match adding 16 points alone as Newton (7 pts), Nitish (4 pts) and Ramananda (3 pts) followed suit. For the Thoubal team, Y Obed led the scoring by adding 9 points as L Bonish scored two points.
In another Group A encounter, CYLC, Chingamathak posted their second win in three matches by edging past Youth Club, Uripok 36-35.
The keenly contested match saw the two starting the game on level pegging but Youth Club raced to a 31-21 lead after three periods before CYLC fought their way back and posted a 15-4 lead in the fourth period to snatch the victory with a 36-35 finish.
 Lourembam led the scoring for CYLC adding 12 points while Athouba added crucial 10 points. Leishemba in the meantime contributed four points as Prince and David added identical 3 points, and Langamba and Smith collected 2 points apiece.
For the Uripok team, H Lamyanba gathered 10 points as RK Devraj  and Y Taibanganba added 9 and 8 points respectively. Madrick (4 pts) and RK Roshan (3 pts) also found their names on the scoresheet for the losing team.
ESU win 44-18 in girls' opener
ESU registered a commanding 44-18 win over YOSC, Khurai in the opening match of the three-team junior girls competition this afternoon. Khoirom Omega took centre-stage in this lopsided encounter adding highest 14 points for ESU as Chongtham Areena 10, N Katherine 8, Thoidingjam Cylvia (6 pts) and Yumnam Nganthoi (6 pts) followed suit. In the meantime, Loktongbam Tulika scored 11 highest points for YOSC as Khushi Kshetrimayum and Aribam Anjelina collected 5 and 2 points respectively.
