Totomsana endorses Meiteis' ST demand

THOUBAL, Apr 15: Expressing strong support to the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur, Inner Manipur Parliamentary election candidate Moirangthem Totomsana has vowed to push the ST demand for Meiteis and give the community Constitutional protection.
He took the vow during a meeting with STDCM members at his residence at Heirok today.
Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur president Dhiraj Yumnam, general  secretary K Bhogendrajit and other members were present.
The STDCM members have been meeting Meitei candidates as part of its campaign to understand the stand of the candidates and share their views on the Meiteis' ST demand.
During the meeting at Heirok today, Independent candidate M Totomsana said the Meitei community must be recognised as a Scheduled Tribe and given the Constitutional protection as sought by the STDCM.
He said granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Meiteis would be the sole means to save the community and its interests.
Totomsana said he would work vigorously to recognise the Meitei community as a Scheduled Tribe.
Manipur's Inner Parliamentary Constituency will vote on April 19.
