WMC takes ST drive to football field

IMPHAL, Apr 17 : Footballers displayed their endorsement to the demand to enlist Meetei/Meitei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Constitution at Lamjao ground in Kakching today.
Ahead of a kicking off a football tournament at Lamjao, players of both the teams which were to square off today raised a series of slogans to grant ST tag to the Meetei/Meitei, said World Meetei Council in a statement.
The footballers, in unison, demanded that the State Government should send the recommendation to add Meetei/Meitei in the ST list before the commencement of the Lok Sabha election. They also demanded that the Chief Minister should not blackmail the ST demand by Meetei/Meitei and added that only enlistment in the ST list can secure the future of the ethnic group.
