Measures in place for smooth elections: DEO

IMPHAL, Apr 17 : Necessary measures have been taken up to ensure peaceful conduct of the 18th Lok Sabha election in 10 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) of Imphal East which fall under Inner Parliamentary seat, said District Election Officer (DEO),  Khumanthem Diana.
Speaking to media at the DC office at Porompat today, Kh Diana said  that the number of voters in Imphal East is 3,23,844 of which 2703 are service voters and  another 77 are transgenders.
Stating that 441 polling stations have been set up in Imphal East of which nine are special polling stations while 143 polling stations in the district will be managed by only women officials and personnel, the DEO added that 10 polling stations (one each in every AC) in the district have been identified as model polling stations.
She went on to state that 728 voters of Outer Constituency will cast their votes  in nine polling stations in Imphal East.
On security deployment, the DEO said that measures have been taken upto deploy adequate security personnel 58 polling stations in vulnerable areas and another 69 in critical areas of the district under the supervision of Imphal East SP.
Diana further said that 1631 absentee voters, PWDs and senior citizens above the age of 85 have cast their votes in Imphal East.
CrPC 144 is still imposed in Imphal East since March 2, 2023, she said and added that there is also a restriction in releasing the result of entry and exit poll.
Informing that election campaigning for the first phase of the Lok Sabha election ended today (4 pm), Diana continued that micro- observers will be stationed at special and critical polling stations.
Video footage will be taken in all the polling stations, she informed.
Maintaining that every sector officer has taken up law and order action in all polling stations to ensure smooth conduct of the election, the DEO added that adequate measures have also been taken up to make the election eco-friendly as much as possible.
She appealed to all the electors to cast their votes without any fear.
