IMPHAL, Apr 17
Condemning yesterday's attack at Keimai, Tollen village along Imphal-Jiribam Highway which left two drivers injured, the Manipur Women's Federation (MWF) has demanded swift arrest and legal action against the culprits.
A statement issued by T Demona, secretary general, Manipur Women's Federation (MWF) has termed it shameful that the India Government has failed to provide adequate security to drivers plying along the 219 km long Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH 37).
According to the drivers, the convoy was not escorted by security forces as they were engaged with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024, said the MWF press release.
At this juncture, MWF has questioned if elections can allay people's hunger and requirement for essential items or if the polls hold more importance than human lives.
MWF conveyed grief upon the attack perpetrated by Kuki militants on drivers ferrying essential items including fuel and demanded appropriate action against the perpetrators.
